international recruiter and admissions counselor

University of Tampa, Tampa, Florida, April 2017 - Present

My primary responsibilities are to recruit international students and to manage third-party international relations. I focus on three major regions: South Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. I travel approximately 50% of the time. My duties include generating leads, consistent communication with students and consultants around the world, tracking applications, and counseling through the admissions process. I also collect data on all leads and IQs acquired through participation in international education fairs, to measure the impact of our outreach on enrollment.

manager: programs, research, media

Lumbini Social Service Foundation (LSSF), Nepal - September 2014 - January 2017

My responsibilities at LSSF can best be grouped into three categories: 1) program development, coordination, and management,  2) writing, research, and reporting, 3) media and outreach.

Program Development, Coordination, & Management: In Lumbini, developed two new girls’ empowerment programs at the Karuna Girls School: Girl Reports and The Lotus Room: Art & Music for Rural Nepali Girls (see Projects page). These programs involve the participation and coordination of young girls, local teachers, international volunteers, and Nepali artists and professionals.

After the devastating earthquakes in the spring of 2015, I moved from Lumbini to Kathmandu to start a new humanitarian relief and rescue operation called Global Karuna. As the camp manager I worked with a small core of volunteers to coordinate the dispersal of food, water, and medical supplies into both urban and highly remote areas. In addition to the camp ground, I also managed our finances, our daily volunteers, and our communications (see Media Outreach below).

In October of 2015, I took charge of volunteer coordination for LSSF. I am now the point of contact for all Lumbini volunteers, assisting them with project development, and VISA and travel information.

In January of 2017 I hosted LSSF’s first team of international students in Lumbini. I developed a 1 week experiential learning program for university students, including lectures, volunteer work, and cultural exchanges.

Writing, Research, & Reporting: In order to support the efforts of the LSSF, I served as a researcher for future projects and as a writer for concept papers, proposals, reports, school project curriculum, and media content.

I also developed data collection tools and strategies to analyze social demographic information on all students enrolled in LSSF institutes and their families. These data include baseline education, marital practices, and health information critical to achieving an understanding of local villages and the challenges faced by students in this region. In order to collect these data, I trained a team of international volunteers in survey development, collection, and data entry, and held teacher training sessions at each institution prior to collection.

Media Outreach: To optimize the outreach of LSSF’s earthquake relief operation, Global Karuna, I developed an online platform to report on our inventory, rescue missions, logistics, and general operations. This website was linked to social media outlets such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram and was successful in connecting our team with local volunteers, donors, doctors, and other organizations, both grassroots and international, for meaningful collaborations to bring aid to earthquake victims.  After the emergency period I further developed the site to update our donors on our work: www.globalkaruna.org

To improve the dissemination of important information on the history, projects, and programs of the LSSF, I designed and developed their primary website: www.servelumbini.org

I was responsible for the collection and analysis of both quantitative and qualitative STEM higher education data, and the development of evaluation instruments to assess program performance. Additionally, I conducted literature reviews for collaborative projects, research, and publications, and authored technical annual reports as well as peer review articles and book chapters on higher education research and policy. Fulbright Foreign Language Teacher Assistant

Gymnasium Gosheim-Wehingen, Wehingen, Germany – October 2008 – July 2009

As a foreign language teacher assistant, I developed and implemented new class material for courses taught in English, French, Spanish, and German. This included activities in reading, conversation, and writing. In addition to language courses, I also assisted with bilingual (German – English) lessons on geography and biology. Finally, as a cultural ambassador, I introduced the concept of the American science fair to the German educators at my host school. I led a small team of teachers to organize and coordinate a bilingual science fair at the school for grades 8-10 by providing training in evaluation criteria and guidance in research methods and science fair practices. The event was highly successful – students, teachers, their friends, and families were involved, and project posters were displayed during the school’s open house. The school adopted this new science fair competition into their curriculum and I had the honor of presenting the project at the International Fulbright Seminar in Berlin that year. Download the Evaluation and the Reference Letter.
